Sugiyono Mangunwiyoto
Sugiyono actually had an ambition to become a teacher. In order to realize his ambition, he diligently studied at the First Teachers' School in Wonosari, Gunungkidul Regency. However, before he finished his education at the Teachers' School, the Japanese Army occupied the country and imposed compulsory military service on young people. He was forced to bury his dream of becoming a teacher, and study as a soldier at the Defenders of the
Homeland (Peta). After completing his education at PETA, he was appointed as Budancho (Platoon Commander) in Wonosari, Gunungkidul Regency. After the proclamation period, he joined the People's Security Army (TKR), and began his career as a section commander. He was then appointed as an adjutant to the Commander of Brigade 10 under Lieutenant Colonel Soeharto in 1947.
On March 1, 1949, a general attack occured in Yogyakarta during the Second Military Aggresion. He participated in the success of the troops in stopping the Second Military Aggression which was able to change the international world's assessment of the strength of the Republic of Indonesia.

Colonel Inf (Posthumous) Sugiyono married Supriyati, a nurse at Bethesda Hospital. He met his wife when Colonel Inf Sugiyono was being treated at Bethesda Hospital due to injury or illness while on duty on the battlefield. Then they married and had six sons:

- R. Agung Pramuji (b. 1956)
- R. Haryo Guritno (b. 1958)
- R. Danny Nugroho (b. 1960)
- R. Budi Winoto (b. 1962)
- R. Ganis Priyono (b. 1963)
- a daughter, Rr. Sugiarti Takarina (b. 1965), who was born 20 days after her father's body was found. The name Sugiarti Takarina was given by President Soekarno
